Old Stuff
Many people who attend our church haven’t been attending very long (or even going to any church for very long), so we thought it would be fun to show what Dulles Community used to look like.
For starters, the church used to be called Dulles Covenant Church, and had this nifty little painting for a logo. No, that’s not an aircraft carrier stuck in a rice patty, that’s Dulles Airport. Anyhow, we had a whole different website with a very different style. We’ve come a long way, baby.
Well, sometime early in 2003, a bunch of graphic artists and web developers got together to build a new website, and the first thing that was decided was the church needed a new logo. For a couple months, designs were passed back and forth as the DCC brand continued to evolve. Eventually we came up with the Dulles “circle D” .
You’ve Got God
The Dulles Diamond
The burning bush
Trying various logos
Starting to develop the circle theme
Do you play Halo?
Infinity
Playing around with variations of a “d” over a shape
Finally found a “circle d” that we all agreed on, now experimenting with various colors and fonts
Developing the “circle d” a little further- adding border and drop shadow
Still working on colors and fonts… here we decided on the green
The finished product, a couple months later!
After agreeing on a logo, we went to build a new website based around the green logo. This was our website, which stood for 2 years. Build in ASP.Net and SQL 2000 (for those of you who care), it served as the internal church database as well, with an extensive, homegrown administration system.
After 2 years we started to get bored, and needed something with more of a content management system. We also realized the need to separate the external-facing website from the internal church database. We ended up choosing php-based TextPattern for this current website, and Fellowship Technologies for our database.
That’s probably more than you wanted to know… but gives you a good idea of where we’ve been and how far we’ve come in 3 short years!
